Gabriel Jesus’ agent reveals why Arsenal signing rejected late Chelsea approach
The agent of Arsenal summer signing Gabriel Jesus has, on Friday, provided an insight into the efforts of another Premier League club to hijack the Gunners’ swoop for his client.
Brazilian international Jesus, of course, sealed a long-awaited move to the Emirates earlier this month, committing the prime years of his career to Mikel Arteta’s troops.
This comes with securing reinforcements up top having emerged as something of a priority on the red half of north London this summer, on the back of the respective departures of both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.
As alluded to above, though, had another of the Premier League’s top clubs had their way, then Jesus may well have been calling a different area of London home from next season on.
The outfit in question? Chelsea.
Stamford Bridge was of course tipped as a potential alternative landing spot for the Brazilian last month, as Thomas Tuchel and co. prepped for the departure of record signing Romelu Lukaku.
In truth, though, it was altogether unclear how serious Chelsea’s interest ever really was.
But now, none other than Jesus’ representative has provided an insight into as much. Speaking to journalist Freddie Paxton, Marcelo Pettinati confirmed that, in fact, the board in west London did their best to ‘hijack’ Arsenal’s swoop.
Such efforts, however, ultimately proved fruitless owing to he and his client having already had their focus firmly on the project being overseen by Mikel Arteta at the Emirates Stadium:
