Liverpool News: Reds Suffer Double Injury Blow as Young Duo Ruled Out of Opening Clash at Fulham

Liverpool News: When the Reds begin their campaign to win the Premier League at Fulham on Saturday, they will be without two of its burgeoning young stars.

On the eve of the season, manager Jurgen Klopp was dealt a double injury setback. Two of the young players he had picked out for significant roles during the year were ruled out.

Ibrahima Konate, who earned a spot in the starting lineup for the Champions League final against Real Madrid in May, will miss the game. He was also selected for the France senior team, earning his first caps. However, he suffered an injury in the friendly match against Strasbourg.

During the warm-up at Anfield on Sunday, Konate actually fell down twice for extended periods of time with two distinct ailments. However, Jurgen Klopp revealed he didn’t think the issue was too serious.

Joel Matip will undoubtedly play after joining Virgil van Dijk in the Community Shield victory against Manchester City. However, it has become concerning enough for the Liverpool medical staff to rule him out of the first game of the season.

And Curtis Jones will follow him there. The midfielder has been cursed with injuries. The England U21 midfielder already dealt with a number of minor issues last season. That includes an eye injury that sidelined him for a while.

Jones made an appearance at the conclusion of the game against City on Saturday. He was scheduled to play against Strasbourg the following day. However, the medical staff chose to look into the muscle problem further, according to the manager.

After more testing, the Reds decided not to play Jones against Fulham, according to Klopp, who added: “He wanted to play urgently. However, the medical department said no and that we needed to make extra tests.”

Naby Keita will be in the lineup for the trip to London. He has overcome the illness that kept him out of action last weekend.
