Manchester United News: Red Devils Deny Reports Cristiano Ronaldo’s Contract Could Be Terminated
Manchester United news: The Red Devils have denied claims they are considering terminating Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract at the club.
Reports earlier this week claimed Man Utd could terminate the Portuguese international’s contract at the club if his attitude does not improve.
Reports have said the 37-year-old has asked Man Utd to allow him to leave should they receive a suitable offer.
The Portuguese international had cut a frustrated figure in Man Utd’s defeat to Brentford in the Premier League. Ronaldo featured for the entirety of the match as the Red Devils suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of the Bees.
Ronaldo had refused to acknowledge the Man Utd fans after their disastrous performance against Brentford. This was despite Erik ten Hag’s assistant manager Steven McClaren reportedly asking the star striker to applaud the fans.
Meanwhile, Ronaldo had missed Man Utd’s pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia due to ‘family reasons’. He was also not part of the Man Utd squad that faced Atletico Madrid in a pre-season friendly at the Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo.
Ronaldo, though, played 45 minutes in Man Utd’s pre-season match against Rayo Vallecano at Old Trafford.
Ronaldo, however, did not make the cut into Man Utd’s starting XI for their Premier League 2022/23 season opener. However, he came on in the second half, replacing Fred, as Man Utd lost 2-1 to Brighton at Old Trafford.
Ronaldo re-signed for Manchester United last summer, joining from Juventus. The Red Devils endured a difficult campaign last season, finishing sixth in the Premier League and thus missing out on Champions League qualification.
Despite Man Utd’s struggles, Ronaldo managed to register respectable figures. He scored 24 goals from 38 appearances last season. 18 of those came in the Premier League, where he finished as the third top scorer.
Ronaldo is yet to score a goal this season despite featuring in two Premier League matches for the Old Trafford outfit.
