Barcelona Transfer News: Xavi Admits He Loves Bernardo Silva as a Player
Barcelona transfer news: Manager Xavi has said he loves Man City star Bernardo Silva as a player amid the Catalan club’s interest in the Portuguese international.
Silva has been linked with a move away from Man City this summer, with Barcelona keen to secure his services. Barcelona had also shown interest in Silva last summer, but a move never materialized.
The defending Premier League champions are also standing firm on their valuation of Silva, with the club valuing the 28-year-old at around €100m at the start of the summer.
Speaking after Barcelona and Man City played out a 3-3 draw in a friendly, Xavi discussed the rumours surrounding Silva.
Xavi admitted he loves Silva as a footballer, and labelled the Portuguese international a player ‘who makes the difference on the pitch’.
Meanwhile, Man City manager Pep Guardiola has admitted Silva likes Barcelona. Guardiola insisted he wants Silva to stay at Man City, but did not rule out an exit.
That would have boosted Barcelona’s hopes of signing Silva before the transfer window closes. Barcelona, though, have not yet submitted a bid to Man City for Silva.
Meanwhile, Silva remains an important player for Man City and Guardiola. He has featured in all four games they have played so far this season. He played throughout in their 3-1 defeat to Liverpool in the FA Community Shield final.
Silva also came off the bench in Man City’s first two Premier League games of the season, both of which they won. The Portuguese star also started and starred for Man City in their latest game in the English top-flight.
Silva assisted Ilkay Gundogan’s opener for Man City and scored the equalizer when they were trailing 3-2 to Newcastle United. The match ended in a 3-3 draw.
Meanwhile, Silva’s current contract with Man City runs until 2025, meaning he has three years left on his deal with the Manchester outfit.
