Chelsea Transfer News: Thomas Tuchel Rejected Cristiano Ronaldo Move After Ralf Rangnick Advice
Chelsea transfer news: Manager Thomas Tuchel reportedly decided against signing Cristiano Ronaldo after advice from former Man Utd interim manager Ralf Rangnick.
Ronaldo has been linked with a move away from Man Utd this summer – just one season after he re-signed for them. He wants to play in the Champions League, which Man Utd have not qualified for after finishing sixth in the Premier League last season.
Reports have said Ronaldo has asked Man Utd to allow him to leave should they receive a suitable offer. Man Utd, though, have insisted Ronaldo is not for sale.
Rangnick was the Man Utd interim manager after the Red Devils sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer midway through the last season.
During his time as Man Utd interim manager, Rangick had also said Ronaldo was not a pressing monster, even at his young age.
Meanwhile, Ronaldo has only started in just one match for Man Utd this season. He has so far made four appearances for the Old Trafford outfit, but three of those were in the role of a substitute.
Man Utd manager Erik Ten Hag dropped Ronaldo to the bench in their very first game of the Premier League 22/23 campaign. That call was mostly attributed to the fact that Ronaldo had joined the team in pre-season later than others had.
Ten Hag restored Ronaldo to the starting XI in their next game, against Brentford. However, Ronaldo could not do much as the Red Devils suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of the Bees. Brentford secured a 4-0 win in that game.
Ten Hag decided to drop Ronaldo from the starting XI against bitter rivals Liverpool. The Dutch manager made four changes to the team started at Brentford. Ronaldo was one of those who moved to the bench, and so was captain Harry Maguire. Ten Hag’s changes reaped dividends as Man Utd inflicted a 1-0 defeat on Liverpool.
Ten Hag made no changes to the starting XI against Southampton – with Ronaldo on the bench – as they secured a 1-0 victory. Ronaldo did make an appearance off the bench in both games.
Meanwhile, Man Utd face Leicester City at King Power Stadium in their next game as they look to secure a third consecutive win in the English top-flight.
