Barcelona News: Xavi Lavishes Praise on Ousmane Dembele
Barcelona news: Manger Xavi has heaped praise on Ousmane Dembele after the Frenchman impressed in their win over Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League group stage.
The Catalan outfit kicked off their Champions League 22/23 campaign with a bang, cruising to a 5-1 win over Viktoria Plzen.
Franck Kessie broke the deadlock in the 13th minute before Robert Lewandowksi made it 2-0 in the 34th minute. Viktoria Plzen pulled one back in the 44th minute but Lewandowski re-established Barcelona’s two-goal advantage in the 45+3rd minute.
Lewandowski then scored one more goal, his hat-trick for Barcelona, in the 67th minute. Ferran Torres completed Barcelona’s rout of Viktoria Plzen with a goal in the 71st minute.
Dembele also assisted Torres’ goal, producing a sensational ball to set up the Spaniard for Barcelona’s fifth of the match.
Speaking after the match, Xavi lavished praise on Dembele. The Barca manager said Dembele is at the level of the best version of Neymar Jr. Xavi also said Dembele is making difference and being decisive for the Catalan club.
The Barca manager added: “He is at the level of the best Neymar. He had suffered a lot in recent years and he deserves what he is now. There is no pure winger who can come out on both sides as he does.”
Meanwhile, Barcelona have had a great start to their season. After an underwhelming goalless draw against Rayo Vallecano in their first match of the La Liga 22/23 season, Barcelona have won all games they have played.
Barca sits second in the La Liga points table with 10 points from their first four fixtures. They are only two points behind league leaders Real Madrid, who have a 100% win record so far this season.
Meanwhile, Barcelona faces Cadiz in an away fixture in their next game in the Spanish top-flight.
