Barcelona News: Memphis Depay Reveals He Had Offers From Elsewhere
Barcelona news: Memphis Depay has revealed he had offers on the table in the summer transfer window but chose to stay at the Catalan outfit.
Depay was linked with a move away from Barcelona in the summer transfer window. Both Chelsea and Juventus were linked with the Netherlands international, but a move never happened.
Depay joined Barcelona in 2021 on a free transfer after his contract with Lyon had expired. The 28-year-old made 38 appearances for Barcelona in his first season with the club and scored 13 goals for the Catalan outfit.
Of those appearances, 28 came in the Spanish top-flight, where he scored 12 of his 13 goals in the 21/22 season.
The Dutch attacker has only featured in 3 matches for Barca so far this season. He has a combined game time of 131 minutes so far this season. Depay has also scored a goal.
Depay has now admitted he is not satisfied with the game time he has had at Barca this season. He insisted it is not enough and that he wants to get more playing minutes.
Depay also stressed that he does not fear competition and will fight to earn his place in the squad. The Dutchman also revealed he had offers from elsewhere, which he chose to knock back to stay at Barcelona.
He added: “I love competition and I do not run from it. I love being in Barcelona. Other clubs knocked at my door and I looked at my options. I decided to stay and fight for my chance at Barcelona.”
Meanwhile, Barcelona have had a relatively good start to the 22/23 campaign. They sit second in the La Liga points table, only behind Real Madrid. Barcelona have 16 points from their first six matches, having won five of those and shared points in the other.
Meanwhile, Barca kicked off their Champions League campaign with a thumping 5-1 win over Viktoria Plzen but fell to a 2-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in their next.
