Football News: Cristiano Ronaldo Pictured Sporting a Black Eye After Nasty Collision

Ronaldo was bloodied and bruised after a nasty collision during Portugal’s recent game in the UEFA Nations League against the Czech Republic.

The Portuguese star sustained the injury just 12 minutes into the match. Both Ronaldo and Czech Republic goalkeeper Tomas Vaclik leaped to contest for the ball, and the latter inadvertently smashed into the former’s face.

Against the Czech Republic, Portugal took the lead through Diogo Dalot in the 33rd minute of the match. The Man Utd full-back tapped home from a Rafael Leao pass, finishing off a move he himself had started.

Portugal made it 2-0 on the stroke of half-time, with Bruno Fernandes duly finishing from close range after an excellent pass from Mario Rui.

The Czech Republic got an opportunity to pull one back after Ronaldo handled the ball inside the box and the referee awarded a penalty. However, Patrik Schick failed to convert from the spot.

Portugal then established a three-goal cushion in the 52nd minute. Dalot unleashed a long-ranger that beat Vaclik and crept into the net. Diogo Jota then scored Portugal’s fourth goal, tapping home from close range.

The win saw Portugal move to the top of League A Group 2. They have 10 points from their first five fixtures in the group. Spain sits second, with eight points from five matches.

Spain could have remained as group leaders if they had won against Switzerland instead of falling to a 2-1 defeat.

Portugal and Spain come up against each other in the next game, with a spot in the UEFA Nations League semi-final at stake. The group toppers will progress to the semi-finals, and both Portugal and Spain have a shot at that.

A draw would be enough for Portugal to seal their place in the semis, while nothing less than a win would do for Spain. The match between Portugal and Spain kicks off at 12:15 am Indian Standard Time, on September 28th.
