Barcelona Doesn’t Want to Recall Samuel Umtiti From Loan
A Lyon academy graduate, Samuel Umtity made his senior team debut for the French club in 2012. He stayed four with Lyon’s senior squad before joining La Liga giants Barcelona in the summer of 2016.
At that moment he was one of the best players in the world and quickly became one of the mainstays of the Barcelona team. He won two La Liga titles with Barcelona and was selected for the French national team. Meanwhile, he got injured before 2018 and then decided to not opt for surgery.
Umtiti played in the World Cup and helped France to win the tournament. However, after that, his knee injury became worse and he was never the same player anymore. In recent years Umr]tity struggled to stay fit and the 28-year-old defender did not play for the Catalan giants.
With Umtiti having no place in the team, Barcelona was looking to offload the defender throughout the whole summer transfer window.
They were finally able to do that when the defender got an offer from the newly promoted Serie-A side Leece. Interestingly Barca even agreed to pay the full wages of Umtiti.
The Frenchman then left Barcelona but he is yet to play a single minute for the Italian club. He has been an unused sub in Leece’s last six Serie-A games and no one knows when he will get any appearances.
Barcelona is actually going through some injury issues. Three of their main centre-backs, Ronald Araujo, Andreas Christensen, and Jules Kounde are out with injuries. Apart from this, their right-back Hector Bellerin is also currently injured.
However, despite all this, Barcelona doesn’t want to recall Umtiti back from Leece. He will surely spend the whole 2022/23 season in Italy. The report further tells that he is currently fit but still lacks the rhythm. Leece will play against Mourinho’s Roma in the fixture.
If Umtity gets some minutes and can play even near his best days, that will be a huge boost for the relegation-threatened Leece.
Meanwhile, Barcelona who is currently at the top of the La Liga table will play against Celta Vigo in their next match.
