Juventus Keeping Eye on Villarreal Goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili

Mamardashvili started his football career at the academy of Gagra. However, after two seasons, he joined another Georgian club, Dinamo Tbilisi’s youth setup.

The Georgian custodian then graduated from the Tbilisi academy and was promoted to the main team. After his promotion, he was sent on loan to Rustavi. Here Mamardashvili made his senior debut. The goalkeeper then joined Locomotive Tbilisi. He played one season for Locomotive Tbilisi and represented them in the Europa League. Mamardashvili performed really well on the European stage.

He was then named Georgian goalkeeper of the season. The next year, the Georgian goalkeeper joined Valencia on a loan deal. Although he was at first assigned to the subsidiary team of Valencia, he impressed Los Che manager Bordalas. Mamardashvili made his La Liga debut against Getafe in their first match of the 2021-22 season.

Since joining Valencia, Mamardashvili has risen to be their first-choice shot-stopper. The Georgian has played exceptionally well throughout the last season. His performance under the goal was one of the main reasons for Valencia’s final run in the Copa Del Rey.

He has made a good start to the ongoing season too. Mamardashvili has started in all eleven matches for Valencia so far. The goalkeeper is currently averaging 3.0 saves per game with a save percentage of 72%.

His performance has made him one of the best shot-stoppers in La Liga. Hence many big teams are looking to sign a goalkeeper. Juventus have now entered that list.

Juventus’ first-choice goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny is currently 32 years old. His contract at Turin will end at the end of the 2023/24 season. At that time he will be 34.

So before that Juventus, want to sign one more goalkeeper who can become a long-time replacement for Wojciech Szczesny. Hence they are monitoring the Georgian keeper.

Now Mamardashivili, who is currently 24, signed a contract renewal with the Bianconeri at the start of this season which expires in 2027. He has a release clause of €100 million in his contract but obviously, Juventus are not going to pay that much for the Georgian shot-stopper.

Now, it is expected that if Juventus want to rope in the Valencia goalkeeper they will have to pay in the range of €40 million for him. But one thing is for sure, he currently has the potential to become one of the best in the world.
