Erik ten Hag ‘Really Happy’ With the Development of Diogo Dalot
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag said he is happy with the development of Diogo Dalot after the Portuguese defender delivered an impressive performance in their win over West Ham United.
Dalot, who has become Man Utd’s first-choice right-back under Ten Hag, produced another good display against West Ham. He featured right from the start until the end, making some key clearances and interceptions.
Speaking after the match, Ten Hag said Dalot’s development is good, but stressed that a team like Manchester United need two full-backs since they have a lot of games to cover.
“He has the breath [cardio] to go up and down [the flank] so the development is really good, but I have to mention, I think a club like Man Utd need two good full-backs because we have a lot of games to cover.“
Dalot has been a constant fixture in the Manchester United starting XI this season. The Portugal international has featured in all of Man Utd’s games so far this season.
Dalot has made 17 appearances for the Red Devils so far in the 22/23 season. He has featured in 12 matches in the Premier League and appeared in five games in Europa League for the English side this season. He has also scored a goal and provided two assists.
Dalot’s current contract with Man Utd expires next year. But the Red Devils have an option to extend his contract by another 12 months. He has also reportedly attracted transfer interest from Barcelona.
Meanwhile, Man Utd’s win over West Ham saw them move up to fifth in the Premier League points table. Ten Hag’s men have 23 points from 12 games in the league so far this season. They are just one point short of fourth-placed Newcastle United and three points behind third-placed Tottenham Hotspur, but both sides have played a game more.
Man Utd, meanwhile, are eight points behind table-toppers Arsenal. The Gunners have 31 points from 12 fixtures in the league this season.
