Cristiano Ronaldo Should Have Left Manchester United in the Summer, Insists Teddy Sheringham
Teddy Sheringham has claimed Cristiano Ronaldo should have left Manchester United in the 2022 summer transfer window.
Ronaldo was heavily linked with an exit from Manchester United in the summer, just one season he after signed for the Red Devils in a sensational return to the Old Trafford outfit.
Reports said Ronaldo had asked Man Utd to allow him to leave if they receive a suitable offer in the summer transfer window. The Portuguese superstar wanted to play in the Champions League, for which Man Utd have failed to qualify this season.
Man Utd’s stance amid all the rumours was that Ronaldo was not for sale and the 37-year-old ended up staying at the English outfit. Interest in Ronaldo was also few and far between, with the only offer coming from a Saudi Arabian club.
Sheringham insisted Ronaldo should have left Manchester United at the start of the season. He warned that it is not ideal to have an unhappy superstar in the squad.
“If Ronaldo is not 100% committed to the cause, it’s not good for the rest of the squad, no matter the player.”
In the Premier League, Ronaldo has featured in nine games for the Old Trafford outfit. However, only three of those were as a starter, with the rest being appearances off the bench.
He has only bagged one goal in the Premier League. That came in Man Utd’s 2-1 win over Everton, with Ronaldo scoring the winner on the stroke of halftime after coming on as a substitute.
In the Europa League, Ronaldo has started in all five games the Red Devils have played. He has also scored two goals in the Europa League. Both goals came against FC Sheriff, with Ronaldo registering a goal each in Man Utd’s two group stage matches against the Moldovan outfit.
