Son Heung-Min to Undergo Medical Assessment After Head Injury
Tottenham Hotspur assistant manager Cristian Stellini has provided an update on the injury Son Heung-Min suffered during their win over Marseille in the Champions League.
The Premier League side travelled to France to take on Marseille in their final Champions League 22/23 group stage match. Spurs secured a 2-1 win in that game, courtesy of an injury-time winner from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
That win sealed Tottenham’s place in the Champions League round-of-16 and also took them to the top of the Group D points table. However, the Spurs were dealt with an injury blow with Son forced off with an injury.
The 30-year-old suffered a head injury in the first half after colliding with Marseille’s Chancel Mbemba during an aerial challenge. The Tottenham Hotspur attacker was replaced in the 29th minute, and he looked unsteady as he left the pitch.
Speaking after the game, Tottenham Hotspur assistant manager Stellini said they have to wait for a medical assessment on Son. However, he also revealed Son feels better and that he was able to take part in the celebration in the dressing room after their win.
“We’re not sure if it is concussion yet. It was an injury to his face, his eye is swollen. So we will wait for tomorrow.”
As Stellini said, Tottenham Hotspur will check Son’s injury on Wednesday to assess the extent of it.
Son’s injury also leaves him a doubt for Tottenham’s weekend fixture against Liverpool in the Premier League.
Tottenham host Liverpool in a Premier League fixture on Sunday, and the Spurs will be aiming to earn all three points against the struggling Reds.
Liverpool head into the fixture against Tottenham Hotspur on the back of their 2-0 win over Napoli in the Champions League. But the Merseyside outfit have fallen to defeats in their previous two fixtures in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur sits third in the Premier League points table with 26 points from 13 matches. They are five points short of table-toppers Arsenal, who have 31 points from 12 matches.
