Gavi Becomes Spain’s Youngest Scorer at FIFA World Cup

Spain got off to a quick start with Dani Olmo finding the net in the 11th minute of the match. La Furia Roja scored six more goals before the full-time as they registered a 7-0 win over Costa Rica.

After Olmo sent Spain ahead in the 11th minute of the match, Marco Asensio doubled their lead in the 21st minute. Ferran Torres then bagged a brace – goals scored in the 31st and 54th minute – to establish a four-goal cushion in FIFA World Cup 2022 match.

Gavi, who was impressive for Spain against Costa Rica, added his name to the scoresheet in 74 minutes, scoring his side’s fifth goal of the match. Alvaro Morata sent a cross into the box and Gavi volleyed it home – the ball going in off the post.

In the process, Gavi became the third youngest player ever to score a goal in the FIFA World Cup flagship event. Only Pele and Manuel Rosas have scored a World Cup goal at a younger age.

Gavi also became the youngest goalscorer in a FIFA World Cup match since Pelé in the 1958 final against Sweden. He’s also Spain’s youngest goalscorer at the World Cup. By featuring against Costa Rica, he also becomes the youngest player ever to play for Spain at the FIFA World Cup.

Meanwhile, the win over Costa Rica took Spain to the top of the FIFA World Cup points table in Group E. In Group E, Spain occupies first place with three points from one match. Costs Rica, meanwhile, languishes at fourth with zero points from one match.

Germany and Japan had squared off in Group E prior to the clash between Spain and Costa Rica. Japan shocked Germany in that game, inflicting a 2-1 defeat on the European heavyweights.

Germany took the lead through Ilkay Gundogan in the 33rd minute, but Japan pulled off a second-half comeback to get the better of their rivals.
