Mason Mount Rejected Chelsea Contract Offer Worth More Than £200,000 a week
Chelsea are keen to keep Mason Mount at the club beyond the end of his current contract with the Blues. The 23-year-old attacking midfielder’s current contract with the Stamford Bridge outfit expires in 2024.
Chelsea have held a discussion with regard to a new contract for Mason Mount, but the two parties are yet to reach an agreement on it. The Blues agreed to put the contract discussion on hold for the duration of the FIFA World Cup 2022.
The English outlet adds that Mason Mount’s representatives are seeking a contract similar to Raheem Sterling, who is on a £300,000-a-week at the Stamford Bridge outfit.
Chelsea’s offers so far for Mason Mount has not reached that figure. The Blues will be eager to tie down Mason Mount to a long-term contract at the club soon.
With less than 18 months left on his contract, the club will not want to get into a situation where Mount’s transfer value decreases and he leaves the club.
Liverpool have already been linked with Mason Mount. However, at this point, a move away from Chelsea does not look likely.
Mount remains an important player for Chelsea, and he has featured regularly for the west London outfit this season. The 23-year-old has made 21 appearances across all competitions for Chelsea so far this season.
Meanwhile, England remains top of Group B at the FIFA World Cup 2022 despite their frustrating draw with the USA. The Three Lions have four points from two matches and are one point clear of second-placed Iran in Group B. They will conclude their FIFA World Cup 2022 group stage campaign by taking on Wales.
