Croatia national football team midfielder Luka Modric has hit out at the refereeing performance of Daniele Orsato in Croatia vs Argentina FIFA World Cup 2022 semi-final fixture, labelling it as ‘one of the worst’.

The South American heavyweights took the lead through Lionel Messi in the 34th minute, with the Argentina captain converting a penalty. It was a contentious decision to award Argentina a penalty after Croatia goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic was adjudged to have fouled Julian Alvarez inside the box.

Argentina then doubled their lead in the 39th minute through Julian Alvarez before the Manchester City attacker bagged a brace and scored his side’s third of the match on 69 minutes. Lionel Scaloni’s men then comfortably saw off this Croatia vs Argentina fixture to take them just one win away from lifting the coveted FIFA World Cup 2022 title.

Speaking after the match, Luka Modric blasted the performance of Daniele Orsato in Croatia vs Argentina’s FIFA World Cup 2022 clash. Luka Modric claimed that the penalty Orsato gave Argentina should not have been a penalty. The Real Madrid midfielder said that the penalty killed Croatia.

Luka Modric labelled the refereeing performance in Croatia vs Argentina game as one of the worst. However, he also admitted Argentina was a fair winner in the game.

I don’t like to talk about referees but this is one of the worst. I don’t have a good memory of him, he’s a disaster. For me, it wasn’t a penalty.

Despite this, I don’t want to detract from Argentina. The penalty killed us. We have to recover for the third place play-off and win that game.

Meanwhile, Argentina will take on the winners of France vs Morocco semi-final in the final of the FIFA World Cup 2022.
