Armando Broja Set to Miss Remainder of 22/23 Season
Chelsea have confirmed striker Armando Broja is set to miss the remainder of the 22/23 season after sustaining an injury during the Blues’ friendly match with Aston Villa on Sunday.
Chelsea and Aston Villa squared off in a friendly match at Al Nahyan Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, with the latter securing a 1-0 win over the Blues. John McGinn scored the only goal of the game as Aston Villa got the better of Chelsea.
Chelsea also suffered another blow when Armando Broja suffered an injury after a collision with Ezri Konsa in the first half of the match. The 21-year-old Albania national football team forward screamed in pain and was stretchered off the pitch. Chelsea replaced Armando Broja with Dion Rankine in the 24th minute of the match.
The Blues have now released a statement confirming that Armando Broja is set to miss the remainder of the 22/23 season after sustaining an injury in their friendly clash with Aston Villa.
In a statement released on Chelsea’s official website, the club said Armando Broja underwent further assessment following their return to England and that scan results have confirmed the young forward has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament.
“Scan results from those assessments have unfortunately confirmed an anterior cruciate ligament rupture and that surgery will be required.
“Following the operation, Armando will work closely with the club’s medical department during his rehabilitation and is expected to miss the remainder of the 2022/23 campaign.”
Armando Broja has featured in 18 games across all competitions for Chelsea in the 22/23 season. He has also scored a goal and registered an assist – both in the English Premier League.
Meanwhile, Chelsea currently sit eighth in the Premier League points table. The west London outfit have 21 points from 14 matches in the English top flight so far this season. They are 16 points behind table-toppers Arsenal, who have 37 points from 14 matches.
Chelsea will take on Bournemouth in their first fixture after club football restarts following the FIFA World Cup 2022. The Blues will be aiming to end their five-game winless run in Premier League when they face Bournemouth.
