Didier Deschamps Rules Karim Benzema Out of FIFA World Cup 2022 Final
France national football team manager Didier Deschamps has ruled Karim Benzema out of making a return to the squad for the FIFA World Cup 2022 final.
Karim Benzema was named in the 26-man France squad for the FIFA World Cup 2022. But he sustained an injury during France’s first training session upon their arrival in Qatar and subsequently headed back to Madrid to recover.
The Frenchman has since recovered from the injury and took part in a closed-doors friendly between Real Madrid and Leganes on Thursday. His recovery from injury has raised suggestions that he could make a return to the France squad for the FIFA World Cup 2022 final.
Didier Deschamps appeared to confirm Karim Benzema will not be part of the France squad for their FIFA World Cup 2022 match against Argentina. The France manager said he has 24 players in his squad after injuries to Karim Benzema and Lucas Hernandez and insisted he is focusing on those players.
He insisted that the 24 players France have available for selection after Karim Benzema and Lucas Hernandez picked up injuries will be the ones he will have at his disposal on Sunday.
“It is not up to me to decide who comes to watch the game, former players or injured players, I focus on my squad and the players at my disposal. We have lost three Christopher Nkunku, Karim Benzema, and Lucas Hernandez and I lost them even though they were in the squad, to begin with.
“So now I am focusing on my 24-man squad and they are the ones I will have at my disposal tomorrow.”
Meanwhile, France have qualified for FIFA World Cup 2022 final after inflicting a 2-0 defeat on Morocco in the semi-final. France have won five of the six games they have played at Qatar 2022. Their only defeat at Qatar 2022 came in their third Group D match where Tunisia secured a shock 1-0 victory.
