Mikel Arteta Confirms That Getting Mykhailo Mudryk Is a Priority
The report adds that Shakhtar’s public statement that they “expect to receive £88m for his services” is the obstacle in the way of Arsenal signing Mudryk.
The Ukrainian winger is one of the sought-after talents. Shakhtar knows that and are in no mood to let off the Ukrainian international for cheap.
Mudryk, a Ukrainian international, has attracted a lot of interest from major European clubs. This is due to his performance for Shakhtar which paid €100 million (£87 million) before the start of the year. After acquiring his international teammate Oleksandr Zinchenko in the summer, Arsenal appeared to have prioritized the forward.
The Gunners’ initial offer was less than the hefty asking price. Although Shakhtar may still hope for more, the Ukrainian giants now hold the upper hand.
The bid, according to other reports, could be worth up to €60 million, including add-ons. This would set a record for a sale by a Ukrainian club—Shakhtar sold Fred to Manchester United in 2018. The Guardian says that Shakhtar still wants more than £80 million, so the offer falls far short of what they want.
When you consider that the majority of the largest sales from Ukraine’s top flight pertain to foreign players, the size of the reported fee becomes more apparent. The most costly offer of a Ukrainian player by a Ukrainian club is the €25m which took protector Dmytro Chygrynskyy to Barcelona back in 2009, an aggregate matched when Andriy Yarmolenko joined Borussia Dortmund eight years after the fact.
Mudryk acknowledged he was shocked by the previously mentioned figures. He also explained his position and spoke of his dedication to Shakhtar.
Mudryk revealed to Sport Arena in November, “I have a long-term contract with Shakhtar [set to expire in December 2026].” Every football player aspires to play for a top club and in a top championship, and I am no exception. I give Shakhtar everything I’ve got.
I am 100% sure that they are unlikely to buy a player from the championship of Ukraine for $100 million. My aspirational ascent to the top championship is hindered by the sum of 100 million. My dream was definitely wounded, but I can’t say it died.”
Mudryk, who turns 22 in January, made his senior debut in September 2021. He has since made significant progress under the direction of new coach Igor Jovicevic. The wide forward has scored 11 goals in 19 appearances across all competitions, including efforts in the Champions League against Celtic at home and on the road.
