Erik ten Hag Confirms Manchester United’s January Transfer Plans
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed that the Red Devils are in the transfer market during the January window for new signings.
Manchester United and Cristiano Ronaldo parted ways in November as the Old Trafford outfit terminated the Portuguese superstar’s contract by mutual consent. The decision to terminate Ronaldo’s contract came following his explosive interview with Piers Morgan.
Ronaldo – who re-signed for Manchester United in the summer of 2021 – had a contract until 2023 with Man Utd that also had the option to extend it for another year. However, his stay was cut short after his controversial interview with Piers Morgan, in which criticized Manchester United, Erik ten Hag among many others.
Cody Gakpo was among the players linked with a move to Manchester United. But the Netherlands international is set to join Red Devils’ Premier League rivals Liverpool, who have reached an agreement with PSV Eindhoven for the transfer of the 23-year-old forward.
Speaking after Manchester United’s win over Nottingham Forest in their first Premier League fixture after the winter break, Erik ten Hag confirmed they are in the market for new signings.
But the Manchester United manager also stressed any new signings would be in line with the sporting and financial criteria they have.
The Dutchman also refused to comment on his compatriot Cody Gakpo’s move to Liverpool.
“I don’t talk about any individual cases [Gakpo]. I am not looking at other teams, I am looking at our team,” Erik ten Hag said.
He added: “I am convinced in the players we have, individual and as a team, that we can compete with those other teams.”
Meanwhile, Manchester United secured a 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest as the Red Devils produced an impressive display. Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Fred scored goals for the Red Devils as they cruised to a comfortable victory.
