Carlo Ancelotti Dismisses Suggestions Barcelona Inflicted Sporting Humiliation on Real Madrid in Spanish Super Cup Final

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has dismissed suggestions that Barcelona inflicted a ‘sporting humiliation’ on Los Blancos with their win over their bitter rivals in the Spanish Super Cup final.

Xavi’s men then established a three-goal cushion in the 69th minute as Pedri put the ball in the back of the net. Karim Benzema scored a consolatory goal for Real Madrid in the 90+3rd minute as Los Blancos lost the match 1-3.

Speaking after the match, Carlo Ancelotti dismissed suggestions that Barcelona inflicted a ‘sporting humiliation’ on Real Madrid with their 3-1 win in the Spanish Super Cup final.

Carlo Ancelotti admitted that Barcelona was the better side in the Spanish Super Cup final, but insisted that to say the Catalan outfit humiliated Los Blancos is a ‘lack of respect’.

It’s not a critical situation, but it’s a difficult situation. You have difficult moments in a season and we have to fix this soon with commitment. When you concede three goals, you need to be better in defense. We need to work on that. We’re not playing well right now. But, this team has the quality to be competitive in all the tournaments we have left. Real Madrid usually wins finals, and we’ve lost this one, but we have a long season left.

Meanwhile, Barcelona currently sits top of the points table in La Liga, while Real Madrid are second. The Catalan outfit have 41 points from 16 matches in the Spanish top flight so far this season.

Real Madrid trail Barcelona by three points. The defending La Liga champions have 38 points from 16 matches.
