Joan Laporta Praises Real Madrid After Barcelona’s Spanish Super Cup Title Win
FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta said Real Madrid knows how to be in victory and defeat after the Catalan outfit got the better of their El Clasico rivals in the Spanish Super Cup final.
Robert Lewandowski then made it 2-0 on the stroke of half-time, assisted by Gavi. Gavi would go on to provide another assist as Pedri scored in the 69th minute of the match to establish a three-goal cushion for Barcelona. Real Madrid would score a consolatory goal in the 90+3rd minute through Karim Benzema, but it was not enough to prevent Barcelona from lifting the title.
Speaking after the match, Joan Laporta praised Real Madrid, labelling their El Clasico opponents as ‘worthy rivals’ to the Catalan outfit.
Joan Laporta also heaped praise on Xavi after Barcelona’s Spanish Super Cup title win.
“He has knowledge, personality, a style of playing football that Barça shows and we express ourselves in this way. He is one of the architects of this genuine way of playing football,” Joan Laporta said about Xavi.
Barcelona’s Spanish Super Cup title win was also Xavi’s first title win since he became the manager of the Catalan outfit. The La Liga behemoths appointed Xavi as their manager in November 2021.
Meanwhile, Xavi will also be eying to deliver the La Liga title to Barcelona in the current season. Barca occupies the top spot in the La Liga points table with 41 points from 16 matches. They are three points clear of second-placed Real Madrid.
