Christophe Galtier Tells PSG to Play and Work For Lionel Messi
Paris Saint-Germain manager Christophe Galtier has urged his team to play for Lionel Messi, who starred for the French behemoths in their win over Toulouse in Ligue 1.
PSG, who are the Ligue 1 leaders, squared off with Toulouse in the French top flight in their most recent game and came from behind to secure all three points.
Paris Saint-Germain then saw off the game to earn all three points from the fixture and extend their lead at the top to eight points, at least for the time being.
Speaking after the match, Christophe Galtier told his team to play and work for Lionel Messi. The Paris Saint-Germain manager also said Lionel Messi must be exempted from certain tasks, seemingly alluding to the defensive duties.
PSG were without both Kylian Mbappe and Neymar Jr when they faced Toulouse. However, Lionel Messi’s goal in the second half of the match ensured PSG did not pay heavy – or any – price for the absence of two of their star attackers.
The victory means PSG now have 54 points from 22 matches in the Ligue 1 so far this 22/23 campaign. They now have an eight-point lead over second-placed Marseille, who have 46 points from 21 matches.
Meanwhile, Lionel Messi’s goal for PSG against Toulouse was his 15th goal of the season. It was also the 10th goal he has scored in the Ligue 1 this season. Messi, who has been impressive to PSG in the current campaign, also has 10 assists to his name in Ligue 1 in 22/23.
PSG will face Marseille in the round of 16 of the French Cup in their next game. The match between the two sides kicks off at 1:30 am Indian Standard Time on February 9.
