Erik ten Hag: Best Way to Honour Victims of Munich Air Disaster is By Playing Excellent Football
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has said that the best way to honour the victims who lost their lives in the Munich air disaster is by playing excellent football like the team put together by Matt Busby did.
The tragedy claimed the lives of 23 of the 44 people onboard the airplane, including eight Manchester United players.
Among the survivors, Johnny Berry and Jackie Blanchflower were so severely injured that they never played football again.
Erik ten Hag said the Munich air disaster is a chapter in Manchester United’s history that must always be remembered and respected. The Dutch tactician also believes continuing to play excellent football as the Busby Babes did is the best tribute to those who lost their lives in the tragedy.
“For us as a group, the best way to honour the team put together by Sir Matt Busby is by playing excellent football, just as they did.
“This club has been fortunate enough to have some fantastic teams down the years, and the very best – the ones most associated with the name of Manchester United – have all been exciting, hard-working, and successful.
“That is a blueprint that is always in our minds and I am satisfied that we are moving towards that aim.”
Meanwhile, Manchester United have been largely impressive ever since Erik ten Hag became the club’s manager. The Red Devils now sit third in the Premier League points table with 42 points from 21 matches.
They are three points behind second-placed Manchester City and five points behind Arsenal, who have played a game less than the Red Devils have in the Premier League in the 22/23 season.
