Five Serious Bidders Interested in Buying Manchester United
Manchester United have attracted interest from potential buyers after their Board of Directors announced they are commencing a process to explore strategic alternatives for the club, including new investments or sale.
Manchester United have already appointed the Raine Group – who oversaw the sale of Chelsea last year – as their exclusive financial advisors.
The Glazer family, owners of Man Utd, have reportedly set a mid-February deadline for interested parties to submit their bid to buy the Old Trafford outfit, one of the world’s most popular football clubs.
Daily Mail report that the group of Qatari investors planning to make a bid for Manchester United are likely to face opposition from four other interested parties.
However, the English outlet also notes that the number of serious groups may reduce if some of them choose to join hands to form a consortium as we saw in the case of Chelsea. It was a consortium led by Toddy Boehly that ultimately won the bid to acquire the west London outfit after its previous owner Roman Abramovich put the club up for sale.
Daily Mail also reports that apart from interest from the group of Qatari investors, Manchester United have also attracted interest from the United States of America. Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Britain’s richest man and the chairman of the INEOS chemicals group, is also interested in Man Utd.
In the first stage of a potential sale, parties have been invited to express their interest. That has a mid-February deadline and is soon to conclude. Interested parties who signed confidentiality agreements were then given access to what is called a ‘data room’ – which has details of Man Utd’s finances, according to Daily Mail.
The English outlet also reports that multiple parties from Saudi Arabia have been given access to the data room. However, the Saudi owners of Newcastle United were not among those given access.
It is not clear at this stage whether those multiple parties from Saudi Arabia would table a bid for Manchester United.
