Erik ten Hag Insists Harry Maguire Has Future at Manchester United
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has insisted that club captain Harry Maguire still has a future at the Old Trafford-outfit.
Harry Maguire has been struggling for game time at Manchester United this season, with the England international not a regular starter under Erik ten Hag.
Harry Maguire was linked with a move away from Manchester United in the 2023 January transfer window but the Red Devils did not want to part ways with the centre-back midway through the season.
Speaking ahead of Manchester United’s Premier League fixture against Leeds United, Erik ten Hag said he is happy with Harry Maguire.
Erik ten Hag said Harry Maguire is progressing well and that the Englishman is doing well in the games he is playing.
Erik ten Hag also stressed Manchester United’s need for strength in depth if Manchester United want to compete for the top prizes.
“But that is what we need if we want to restore Manchester United – we need top players but also double the players in every position because we want to play in so many leagues and so many competitions,” Erik ten Hag said.
“We have certain positions we have a lack of quality and that can’t be, if you want to compete for the highest trophies.”
Meanwhile, Manchester United sit third in the Premier League points table, with the Red Devils largely impressive ever since Erik ten Hag became the club’s manager. They have 43 points from 22 matches in the English top flight so far this season and are only behind Arsenal and Manchester City.
Arsenal, who tops the points table with 51 points from 21 matches, have an eight-point lead over Manchester United, while Manchester City, who have 45 points from 21 matches, are two points clear of the Red Devils.
