Mohamed Salah Says Liverpool Like Their Old Selves in Win Over Everton
Mohamed Salah has said that Liverpool looked like their old selves in their win over Everton in the Merseyside derby in their most recent Premier League fixture.
However, Liverpool returned to winning ways as they got the better of their fierce rivals. Liverpool secured a 2-0 win over Everton, with Mohamed Salah breaking the deadlock in the 36th minute of the match.
Cody Gakpo, who Liverpool signed from PSV Eindhoven in the 2023 January transfer window, doubled their lead in the 49th minute as the Reds picked up all three points from the fixture.
Speaking after the match, Mohamed Salah admitted the result of the Merseyside derby is huge for Liverpool. He is also hopeful ‘this is the start’ for the Reds.
He added: “We were a little bit lucky but luck comes when you work hard. We were excited for this game to change everything. Hopefully, this is the start.
“[Jordan] Henderson and [James] Milner were speaking last week about enjoying our football as we’ve been together for six years and we have new players that are playing really well. It looked like old Liverpool but that started last week.”
Meanwhile, Liverpool now have 32 points from 21 matches in the Premier League so far this season. They trail table-toppers Arsenal by 19 points. Arsenal, who sit atop the Premier League points table, have 51 points from 21 matches.
In the race for the top four, Liverpool are nine points behind fourth-placed Newcastle United. They are also 14 points behind third-placed Manchester United and 16 points shy of second-placed Manchester City.
Liverpool have the opportunity to reduce their gap on Newcastle United to six points when they face the Magpies in their next match in Premier League. That match between Liverpool and Newcastle United kicks off at 11:00 pm Indian Standard Time on February 18.
