Steven Gerrard in Frame to Become PSG Manager
Liverpool & England legend and former Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard is in the frame to become the Paris Saint-Germain manager, according to a report in Scottish Daily Express.
PSG also slumped to a 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich at Parc des Princes in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16. The defending Ligue 1 champions head into the second leg of the round of 16 clash with a one-goal deficit.
Despite boasting a star-studded squad, PSG have been far from their best ever since club football action resumed after the end of FIFA World Cup 2022. They came close to suffering a defeat in their most recent fixture before pulling off a sensational comeback to defeat LOSC Lille 4-3 in Ligue 1.
The Scottish outlet also reports that PSG’s Qatari owners are interested in Steven Gerrard, who they see as a high-profile figure to enhance the club next season.
Should Steven Gerrard become the Paris Saint-Germain, it would be a sensational return to management for the Liverpool icon. His last stint as a manager was at Aston Villa, who sacked him in October 2022.
Steven Gerrard became the Aston Villa manager in November 2021. Aston Villa played 40 matches during his stint at the club and won 13 of those matches. Prior to joining Aston Villa, he was the manager of Rangers between June 2018 and November 2021. He led Rangers to the Scottish Premiership title in the 2020/21 campaign.
Meanwhile, PSG will be aiming to retain the Ligue 1 title and win the Champions League title in the 22/23 season. They take on Marseille in Ligue 1 in their next match and will follow that up with another league match, against Nantes.
PSG will then travel to Munich to square off with Bayern in the second leg of the Champions League.
