Chelsea manager Graham Potter insists he feels excited to face Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Chelsea, who have qualified for the UCL quarter-finals, learned on Friday who they will need to beat for a place in the semi-finals of the competition. The Blues have been drawn against defending Champions League winners Real Madrid in the quarter-finals.

Real Madrid and Chelsea had squared off in the Champions League quarter-finals last season, and it was the Spanish behemoths who triumphed. Real Madrid sealed their place in the semi-finals with a 5-4 aggregate win and would go on to win the Champions League.

Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League match against Everton, Graham Potter was asked if he had a sinking feeling when he learned Real Madrid were their quarter-finals opponents in UCL.

Graham Potter said the feeling he has at the prospect of facing Real Madrid in the Champions League is excitement.

We will focus on Real Madrid when we get there but at the moment our thoughts are on tomorrow and Everton. I’d rather focus on Everton because the other stuff is a long way away.

Chelsea, meanwhile, currently languishes at 10th in the Premier League points table. The London outfit has 37 points from 26 matches in the English top flight so far this season.

However, Chelsea goes into the game against Everton on the back of three consecutive wins. Two of those wins came in Premier League, while the other was their 2-0 defeat of Borussia Dortmund which sealed their place in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, Everton sits 15th in the Premier League points table with 25 points from 27 matches. The match between Chelsea and Everton will kick off at 11:00 pm Indian Standard Time on March 18.

Chelsea will be aiming to earn all three points against Everton and make it four victories in a row and maintain momentum. Chelsea’s Champions League quarter-final matches against Real Madrid will take place in April, but before the first leg, the Blues will have played four more matches in Premier League.
