Lionel Messi was mobbed by fans in Argentina after words spread that he was having dinner with his family in a restaurant in Buenos Aires.
Lionel Messi is now in Argentina for international duty having landed in the country on Monday. Argentina’s national football team will take on Panama and Curacao during the upcoming international break, and Messi has been named in the squad for those games.
Lionel Messi went out with his family for a dinner in a local restaurant in Buenos Aires, and word quickly spread that the Argentine icon was inside. Hundreds of fans then gathered outside of the restaurant to catch a glimpse of Messi, who delivered World Cup glory to Argentina in Qatar 2022.
Lionel Messi was then escorted from the restaurant by police to his vehicle. In a video captured, Messi could be seen grinning as police escorted him to safety.
At FIFA World Cup 2022, Lionel Messi led from the front and starred for Argentina as the South American nation lifted the coveted trophy. It was one trophy that had eluded Messi in his trophy-laden and glorious footballing career.
Argentina won the FIFA World Cup 2022 title after defeating France in a penalty shootout after the two sides remained locked in a draw at the end of normal and extra time.
Messi scored seven goals for Argentina at Qatar 2022, including two in the final against France. He was also named the best player of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Argentina’s upcoming games against Panama and Curacao are their first matches since the FIFA World Cup 2022 ended.
Meanwhile, Lionel Messi’s current contract with PSG is due to expire at the end of the season. The Argentine has not yet agreed on a contract renewal with PSG, and that has led to speculation surrounding his future.
Major League Soccer side Inter Miami have been mooted as a potential destination, while a return to Barcelona has also been speculated on. Barcelona players Sergi Roberto and Ronald Araujo have already admitted they would love to see Lionel Messi return to the Catalan outfit.
Meanwhile, Argentina’s game against Panama will kick off at 5:30 am Indian Standard Time on March 24.
