Gareth Southgate has hinted he could extend his stay as the England national football team manager beyond EURO 2024 if he leads the Three Lions to European glory in the tournament.

Gareth Southgate became the manager of the England national football team in September 2016, initially on a temporary basis when Sam Allardyce resigned from the position. He was then appointed on a permanent basis in November 2016.

Gareth Southgate led England to semi-finals of FIFA World Cup 2018 and the finals of EURO 2020, where they fell to a defeat to eventual champions Italy in penalty shootout. However, England could not progress beyond the quarter finals at FIFA World Cup 2022 as France defeated 2-1.

Gareth Southgate has a contract that runs until December 2024 with England national football team. When asked if EURO 2024 represents his last chance at winning a major silverware with England, Southgate indicated he could extend his stay as the manager of Three Lions beyond that tournament if they win it.

Of course, you’re always going to think you’re going to have other opportunities but injury, form, new players coming through in your position, you can never take that for granted.

Clearly the older ones know the timescale is quite clear. But everybody else has to be mindful of that as well.

When further pressed if he will remain as England’s manager if they win EURO 2024 title, Gareth Southgate said: “Let’s hope we’ve got that opportunity to make that decision.

Meanwhile, England kicked off their UEFA EURO Qualifiers with a win. They beat Italy on their own turn by the score of 1-2.

England will then square off with Ukraine in their second match during the March international break. That game will kick off at 9:30 pm Indian Standard Time on March 26.

Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford, Mason Mount, and Nick Pope have withdrawn from the England squad for their matches in the March international break due to injuries.
