Erik ten Hag Explains Deploying Bruno Fernandes in a Deeper Role
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has explained why he deployed Bruno Fernandes as a deep-lying playmaker in their recent matches.
Bruno Fernandes was impressive for Manchester United in a deeper role in their 2-0 win over Everton in their most recent fixture. Erik ten Hag was full of praise for the Portuguese international’s performance and hailed him as the best player on the pitch.
Casemiro, meanwhile, has just completed a four-game suspension he got after receiving his second red card in the Premier League this season.
“But when you miss them you have to find a solution to bring the game from the back to get the build-up, to progress the ball to attack. We found the idea to bring Bruno down deeper and he’s doing brilliant, I think he’s playing really good games.”
With Christian Eriksen having returned and Casemiro available for selection next game onwards, Bruno Fernandes could now be restored to a position higher up the field.
Meanwhile, Manchester United’s win over Everton sees the Red Devils continue to sit fourth in the Premier League and breathing down the neck of third-placed Newcastle United.
Both Manchester United and Newcastle United have 56 points from 29 matches in the Premier League so far this season. But the Magpies take the third place courtesy of a superior goal difference.
Manchester United, meanwhile, are three points clear of Tottenham Hotspur, who occupy the fifth place. Tottenham Hotspur, however, have played 30 matches in the Premier League so far this season, one more than Manchester United have.
