Carlo Ancelotti Insists Defeat to Villarreal Will Not Affect Real Madrid’s Confidence For Chelsea Clash

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti said their defeat to Villarreal in La Liga in their most recent fixture will not affect their confidence heading into the Champions League quarter-final first leg clash against Chelsea.

Villarreal, however, restored parity through Samuel Chukwueze. Vinicius Jr sent Real Madrid 2-1 up in the 48th minute, but Villarreal pulled off a comeback to defeat the defending La Liga champions.

Real Madrid will take on Premier League side Chelsea in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final in their next match.

Carlo Ancelotti insists that Real Madrid’s defeat to Villarreal will not affect their confidence for the upcoming Champions League clash against Chelsea.

The Real Madrid manager also suggested he may use the same XI that featured in their 4-0 rout of Barcelona in the Copa del Rey semi-final second leg earlier this month.

Like Real Madrid, Chelsea also comes into the Champions League game on the back of a defeat. Chelsea slumped to a 1-0 defeat to Wolves in Premier League in their most recent fixture.

It was also Chelsea’s first game since they appointed Frank Lampard as their interim manager for the remainder of the season. Chelsea had parted ways with Graham Potter earlier this month following their 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa in Premier League.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid are the defending Champions League winner and the Spanish behemoths will be aiming to retain the title. With Real Madrid standing little chance of winning the La Liga title, how their Champions League campaign ends will be crucial to how their 22/23 season will be viewed.

The Champions League quarter-final first-leg match between Real Madrid and Chelsea will kick off at 12:30 am Indian Standard Time on April 13.
