Barcelona Looking to Sign Back-Up to Robert Lewandowski Following Memphis Depay’s Imminent Exit
FC Barcelona are looking to sign a backup striker to Robert Lewandowski following the imminent exit of Memphis Depay to Atletico Madrid.
The Spanish outlet claim that the Catalan outfit are looking for an attacker who could be signed on the cheap and who would be happy to play the role of a backup striker to Robert Lewandowski. Barcelona are also looking at an attacker whose current club would allow him to leave.
SPORT further report that no names have come up as of now. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who left Barcelona for Chelsea earlier this season, has reportedly offered himself to the Catalan outfit. However, the option to re-sign Aubameyang was discarded as the Gabonese striker cannot be registered again this season.
Meanwhile, Memphis Depay has made just four appearances for Barcelona so far in the 22/23 season. Hence a move away from Barcelona makes sense for the Dutchman.
Barcelona, who lifted the Spanish Super Cup title earlier this season, will be aiming to win the La Liga 22/23 title as well. The Catalan outfit are currently top of the La Liga point table, ahead of fierce rivals Real Madrid.
Barcelona have earned 41 points from 16 matches in the Spanish top flight so far this season. They have 13 wins, two draws, and one defeat in La Liga so far in the 22/23 campaign.
Meanwhile, Robert Lewandowski, who Barcelona signed in the summer transfer window, has been impressive for the club. The Polish attacker has racked up 20 goals and five assists for Barca in 22 appearances across all competitions.
Robert Lewandowski has scored 13 of those goals in the La Liga, where he has featured in 15 of the 16 games Barcelona have so far played in the ongoing campaign.
