Barcelona President Makes Joao Cancelo Admission in Latest Transfer News
In the latest Barcelona transfer news, Joan Laporta has confirmed they will try to sign Joao Cancelo on a permanent transfer next summer if the player continues to perform well.
Barcelona signed Joao Cancelo on a season-long loan deal from Manchester City in the summer transfer window of 2023. The Portuguese international has been impressive for Barcelona so far in the current campaign.
A Manchester City return looks unlikely for Joao Cancelo given how he fell down the pecking order at the Premier League club. Cancelo joined Bayern Munich on a loan deal in the January transfer window of 2023. He then returned to Manchester City after that loan spell but Pep Guardiola did not use the player in any fixtures in the 23/24 campaign before the 29-year-old’s move to Barcelona.
In the latest Barcelona transfer news, Joan Laporta confirmed they will try to sign Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix on permanent deals if they continue to perform well.
Barcelona also signed Joao Felix on a season-long loan deal in the summer, with the player arriving from their La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid.
In the latest Barcelona transfer news, he added: “I want the best to stay. I really like Joao Felix and always have. There are very competitive players in the Barca squad. We have a team with much higher value in the market than we had when we arrived.
“Many of them have come from the academy too, which is important. It makes us competitive. Who doesn’t like Pedri, Gavi, Balde, Lewandowski, Raphinha, Cancelo?”
Meanwhile, Barcelona have got off to a good start in La Liga but sits third in the points table. With 21 points from nine matches, they are three points behind arch-rivals and table-toppers Real Madrid.
Barcelona have also won the two fixtures – against Antwerp and Porto – they have played in the Champions League this season.
