Barcelona vs Manchester United: Erik ten Hag & Marcus Rashford Disagree With Referee Decision on Jules Kounde Challenge

Barcelona vs Manchester United: Erik ten Hag and Marcus Rashford were of the opinion that referee Maurizio Mariani was wrong not to award Manchester United a foul after Barcelona defender Jules Kounde appeared to have brought the English forward down in the 64th minute of the Europa League round-of-16 play-off first-leg match between the two sides.

The result of the Barcelona vs Manchester United match would have potentially been changed if referee had blown the whistle after Jules Kounde appeared to have bundled Marcus Rashford over when the Manchester United attacker was through on goal.

Had the referee deemed it to have been a foul, Jules Kounde would have potentially seen a red card for denying a goalscoring opportunity. But the referee did not, a decision that both Marcus Rashford and Erik ten Hag disagree with.

Speaking after the Barcelona vs Manchester United Europa League draw, Erik ten Hag said the aforementioned incident was a clear foul on Marcus Rashford and a penalty for the Red Devils.

Marcus Rashford believes even if it was not a penalty for Manchester United it should have been a foul.

I’ve touched it, went past him, my foot is in front of the ball and he hits my leg. It’s clear contact. It’s not a penalty but it’s 100% a foul for me, but like I’ve said, I’ve not watched it back.

The result of the Barcelona vs Manchester United first-leg has left this Europa League tie in the balance. Both sides will be eyeing to get the better of the other when they resume the clash at Old Trafford.
