Brazil vs Cameroon: Vincent Aboubakar Gets Send Off in FIFA World Cup Group Stage Win
Cameroon bowed out of the FIFA World Cup 2022 in style, defeating Brazil, one of the favourites to lift the coveted trophy, 1-0 in their third and final group match.
Brazil vs Cameroon fixture had a side that had already sealed qualification for the round-of-16 and another side that stood a chance to. Cameroon came into the fixture with a point from two matches. A victory – which they got – took their point tally to four points, but Switzerland’s victory over Serbia in another Group G fixture ended Cameroon’s hopes of progression to the round-of-16.
After a goalless first-half Cameroon scored the only goal of the game in the 90+2nd minute of the match. Brazil desperately tried to claw their way back into the game in the remaining minutes of the injury time. But Cameroon held on to secure a victory.
The only goal of Brazil vs Cameroon fixture was scored by Vincent Aboubakar. Ngom Mbekeli sent an excellent cross into the Brazil box, where Vincent Aboubakar headed it into the near corner to send Cameroon 1-0 up.
The cross from Mbekeli was brilliant, and the header from Aboubakar was sensational, stunning Brazil. Brazil goalkeeper Ederson could only watch as Vincent Aboubakar planted the header into the net.
Vincent Aboubakar then took his jersey off and wheeled away in celebration. That meant he would receive a yellow card for his celebration. Since he was already on a yellow card in this Brazil vs Cameroon fixture, the referee showed a second yellow card and a subsequent red card to send him off.
Vincent Aboubakar is the first player to score a goal and be sent off in a FIFA World Cup match since a certain Zinedine Zidane in the FIFA World Cup 2006 final vs Italy.
Meanwhile, despite defeat in Brazil vs Cameroon fixture, the former progressed to the round-of-16 as Group G winners with six points. Switzerland, who finished second, also have six points, but Brazil have a superior goal difference.
