Bruno Fernandes Sends Message to Fernando Santos as Portugal Part Ways With Manager

Bruno Fernandes has sent a message to Fernando Santos after the 68-year-old left his role as the Portugal national football team manager following their elimination from FIFA World Cup 2022.

Portuguese Football Federation have already announced they have parted ways with Fernando Santos, whose position as the manager of the national football team was called into question after their exit from the FIFA World Cup 2022.

Portugal’s FIFA World Cup 2022 campaign ended much earlier than they would have wanted as Morocco knocked them out of the competition in the quarter-finals. Fernando Santos’ men had qualified for round-of-16 as Group H toppers and had trounced Switzerland 6-1 to book their place in the quarter-final.

Fernando Santos leaves his role as the manager of Portugal’s national football team as their most successful manager. It was under Santos that Portugal won their first-ever major trophy.

Fernando Santos guided Portugal to EURO 2016 title win – the first major trophy that Portugal’s national football team have won. He also guided them to UEFA Nations League 2019 title win.

However, Santos could not deliver world glory to Portugal at FIFA World Cup. Bruno Fernandes, who was part of the Portugal national football team squad that participated in Qatar 2022, took to social media to post a heartfelt message to Fernando Santos.

Bruno Fernandes thanked Santos for putting Portugal at the top of Europe and instilling confidence and belief in Portugal that it was possible for them to be among the ‘big ones’.

As a Portuguese, thank you for putting Portugal at the top of Europe and returning confidence and belief to a ‘small’ country that it was possible to be among the ‘big ones’.

Moments of glory and joy and others of sadness and frustration, but history was made and will forever be marked in the hearts of all Portuguese.
