Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti hailed Vinicius Jr as the best in the world after the Brazilian attacker starred for Los Blancos in their defeat of Liverpool in the Champions League round of 16 second leg.

Real Madrid sealed their place in the Champions League quarter-finals with a 6-2 aggregate win over Liverpool. The Spanish behemoths secured a 5-2 win at Anfield in the first leg, with Vinicius Jr scoring two goals.

The Brazilian was also impressive in the second leg, and it was him who assisted Karim Benzema for the only goal of the game as Real Madrid defeated Liverpool 1-0.

Speaking after the match, Carlo Ancelotti was full of praise for Vinicius Jr, who has established himself as a key player for Real Madrid.

Vinicius Jr has been impressive for Real Madrid in the ongoing 22/23 campaign. The Brazilian international has amassed 19 goals and 10 assists for Real Madrid in 40 appearances across all competitions so far this season.

Six of Vinicius Jr’s goals and three of his assists this season have come in the Champions League, where Real Madrid are through to the last 8 of the competition.

He said: “It was a good game, we delivered a complete performance. We could have easily slipped up but we were disciplined early on, with our ideas clear in our minds, and we finished strongly as well.

Real Madrid will learn on Friday who they will face in the Champions League quarter-finals. AC Milan, Bayern Munich Benfica, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Manchester City, and Napoli have also qualified for the quarter-finals of UCL.

Barcelona currently leads the La Liga title race with a nine-point lead over Real Madrid. Real Madrid could reduce their gap on Barcelona to six points if they defeat the Catalan outfit in their upcoming game.
