Chelsea News: Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher Agree With Damning Comments on Chelsea Owner Todd Boehly
Kalidou Koulibaly’s summer transfer to the Blues from Napoli is now official. After agreeing to a £33.8 million agreement for the 31-year-old Senegalese great, the West London club acquired him.
At Stamford Bridge, there is still a lot of work to be done this summer. Following the conclusion of his contract, Andreas Christensen signed with Barcelona as a free agent, and Antonio Rudiger signed with Real Madrid.
Changes abound under Boehly’s leadership, who oversaw the group that paid more than £4 billion to acquire the Blues from Roman Abramovich.
Bruce Buck, the club’s chairman, and transfer expert Marina Granovskaia are among the prominent individuals who have left the organization. This summer, Boehly has served as the club’s de facto sports director.
Chelsea is experiencing the effects of the significant departures off the field this summer. Neville has now asserted that Boehly’s strategy “seems like he wants to play football manager”. According to Nevile, there was no long-term plan behind the club’s transfer policy.
There’s a little of it about him, Neville continued on the Overlap in collaboration with Sky Bet. They’re starting to become a little anxious as he starts to walk around. You’re assuming “oh, they’re coming in for [Frenkie] de Jong this morning”. He feels under pressure to take action.
It will be a fascinating season for Chelsea, but he wouldn’t have had that pressure if he had retained the previous employees and simply allowed them to function for a year or two. Of course, they’ve also lost a couple of defenders. In fact, they could lose more to Barcelona.
Carragher, Neville’s guest, and a fellow Sky Sports commentator, agreed, claiming that Boehly’s strategy had caused the Blues to “panic buy” players this summer, a reference to the club’s high expenditure on bringing in Cucurella from Brighton in a position that had previously seen a lot of investment.
“I think most football teams are run now, it’s a lot more organized, a lot more sort of, you know, who you want, it’s not sort of these panic things that used to happen in the past, where people just go buy and you’d look at it,” continued Carragher.
“I watch Chelsea do a few things and I’m simply wondering if they are in a panic because they need to buy players. You spent £50 million on Ben Chilwell, and now you’re attempting to sign another left-back as if you just now need them instead of a month ago.
