Chelsea Transfer News: Approach For Ibrahim Sangare Rejected
Chelsea transfer news: PSV Eindhoven have turned down the Blues’ advances to sign Ibrahim Sangare before the transfer window closes.
Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has also attracted Chelsea’s transfer interest. However, the Dutch midfielder wants to stay at Barcelona and a deal looks unlikely.
Eindhovens Dagblad report that PSV decided to turn down Chelsea’s advances. That’s because PSV is unable to sign a replacement for Sangare where he is to leave since the transfer window in the Netherlands is already closed. Dutch teams can only sell but not buy players at this point.
Interestingly, Chelsea could have signed Sangare for €37m if they had pursued a move for the Ivorian midfielder before he signed a new contract with PSV.
Sangare’s previous contract with PSV included a release clause. However, he renewed his contract with PSV in August, and that release clause was removed. His current contract with the Dutch side runs until 2027.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have had a difficult start to their Premier League 22/23 campaign. They kicked off their league season with a 1-0 win over Everton. But Tottenham Hotspur held them to a 2-2 draw in the next game.
Chelsea then fell to a 3-0 defeat to Leeds United in their third game of the season. The Blues returned to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over Leicester City in their next game. The Stamford Bridge again slumped to a defeat in their previous game, losing 2-1 to Southampton.
Chelsea currently sits ninth in the Premier League points table, with seven points from five fixtures.
They face London rivals, West Ham, in their next game in the Premier League. West Ham is 14th in the league table.
