Paris Saint-Germain manager Christophe Galtier defended his player after they slumped to a defeat to Rennes in their most recent fixture.
Despite the defeat, Paris Saint-Germain continues to sit at the top of the Ligue 1 table with 66 points from 28 matches. But their lead at the top has been reduced to seven points.
It was an underwhelming performance from Paris Saint-Germain, but speaking after the match, Christophe Galtier refused to criticise his players.
Speaking after the match, Christophe Galtier insisted that his players gave everything they had in the game against Rennes. He also pointed out that PSG headed into the game with a long list of absentees.
Christophe Galtier also denied suggestions that his players had a lack of commitment in the game against Rennes.
“You can’t incriminate my players on a lack of commitment. That’s not true. You can understand that when you’re 2-0 down to Rennes, that you don’t have a lot of options and that there are a lot of players missing, that there might be some resignation.”
Paris Saint-Germain have already been knocked out of the Champions League. The French heavyweights were eliminated from the competition by Bayern Munich in the round of 16. Bayern sealed their place in the quarter-final with a 3-0 aggregate win over PSG.
PSG have also already been eliminated from the French Cup and the Ligue 1 is the only competition they remain in contention for. They enjoy a seven-point lead in Ligue 1, but losing more points could ramp up pressure on them.
Paris Saint-Germain will take on Lyon in Ligue 1 in their next match. Lyon sit 10th in Ligue 1 table.
