Could Karim Benzema Join France for World Cup Final Against Argentina?
Karim Benzema could make a shock return to France’s FIFA World Cup squad. The Blues have qualified for the FIFA World Cup finals after defeating Morocco 2-0 in a semi-final tie at the Al Bayt Stadium on Thursday.
Theo Hernandez gave France an early lead during the 5th minute of the game before Randal Kolo Mauni doubled the Blues’ lead just 11 minutes before the full-time whistle. Morocco tried hard to get back into the game but France’s defensive unit stood firm, sending the European nation to their second consecutive FIFA World Cup final.
Real Madrid will not stand in the way if he wants to join the French camp. This might be Benzema’s last chance to play in the FIFA World Cup as he will turn 35 later this month.
Benzema has scored 37 goals in 97 appearances for France since making his debut in 2007. He announced his retirement from international football in 2014 but returned to the national set-up in 2020. Karim Benzema starred for the Blues during the UEFA Euro 2020, scoring four goals in four appearances.
The France international is in the final year of his current contract at the Bernabeu Stadium. Real Madrid are interested in extending his stay but the talks over a new deal have not made any progress in recent weeks.
He could leave the club on a Bosman deal next summer. Manchester United are among the clubs who have shown interest in signing him.
According to reports, the Reds Devils are offering him a crazy salary in order to bring him to Old Trafford. It will be intriguing to see how is future unfolds in the coming months
