David de Gea Says Manchester United On ‘Right Track’ As Club Reach FA Cup Final
David de Gea said Manchester United are on the right track after they sealed their place in the FA Cup final but admitted it is not enough although it is a big step from last season.
The Red Devils have shown improvement under Erik Ten Hag, who became the club’s manager after the end of the 21/22 season. Manchester United, who finished sixth in the Premier League last season, currently sit fourth in the table and already have 59 points – one point more than they managed in the entirety of the 21/22 season.
Manchester United, however, crashed out of Europa League after a 3-0 defeat to Sevilla in the quarter-final second leg. However, the Red Devils bounced back with the defeat of Brighton on penalties in the FA Cup semi-final. Manchester United edged out Brighton 7-6 in the penalty shootout after the game remained locked in a draw at the end of normal and extra time.
Speaking after Manchester United qualified for the FA Cup final, David de Gea said they are on the right track but insisted what they have achieved so far this season is still not enough.
“They were great penalties. I was prepared as always. I tried to put pressure on the takers. There’s still a long way to the final but it will be a big game against one of the best teams in Europe and the world. We showed at home we can beat them so let’s hope.
“We are on the right track. One trophy, another final, and fighting for the top four. It’s not enough but it’s a big step from last season.”
Manchester United will square off with Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League in their next game. The match between the two sides will kick off at 12:45 pm Indian Standard Time on April 28.
Meanwhile, the FA Cup final between Manchester United and Manchester City will kick off at 7:30 pm Indian Standard Time on June 3.
