Erik Ten Hag Challenges Marcus Rashford to Be More Clinical

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has challenged club forward Marcus Rashford to be more clinical in front of the goal.

The England international has already racked up five goals in 10 matches across Premier League and Europa League so far this season. That’s the same amount of goals he managed to score for Man Utd last season despite making 22 more appearances.

Speaking ahead of Man Utd’s upcoming fixture – a match against Newcastle United in the Premier League – Ten Hag challenged Rashford to be more clinical.

Ten Hag added: “When you have such good movements and make such good combinations, good actions, then you have to finish.”

Ten Hag also said Man Utd have players who can score 20 goals a season, but stressed the need for players from midfield and defensive departments to get their name on the scoresheet.

I think we have in our squad players who can score that number of goals. But I think we also need something from midfield and the defensive department,” Ten Hag said when asked if he has a player who can score 20 goals a season.

Meanwhile, Man Utd come into the match against Newcastle United on the back of their 1-0 win over Omonia in the Europa League. Despite dominating the match, Man Utd needed to wait until the 90+3rd minute to break the deadlock and find the winner.

Scott McTominay, who came off the bench, scored the crucial goal that earned Man Utd all three points and took them a step closer to the next stage of the competition.

Meanwhile, Man Utd had also secured a win in their previous match in the Premier League. They faced Everton in an away fixture and registered a 2-1 win, with Antony and Cristiano Ronaldo scoring the goals.

Man Utd currently sits fifth in the points table with 15 points from eight matches. They are nine points behind table-toppers Arsenal, but the Old Trafford outfit have a game in hand.
