Erik Ten Hag Provides Anthony Martial Fitness Updates

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag admitted it is ‘really disappointing’ for Anthony Martial after the Frenchman sustained an injury in their win over Everton.

Man Utd faced Everton in the Premier League in their previous match and secured a 2-1 win. Martial started for Man Utd in that match but was taken off just before the half-hour mark after he picked up an injury.

Prior to his withdrawal, he assisted Antony for Man Utd’s equalizer in the 15th minute after Everton had taken the lead through Alex Iwobi in the fifth minute.

Ten Hag brought Ronaldo on in the 29th minute to replace the injured Martial. The Portuguese would go on to score Man Utd’s winner, firing into the bottom corner to make it 2-1 on the stroke of half-time.

Speaking ahead of Manchester United’s upcoming match – a Europa League group stage match against Omonia – Ten Hag provided a fitness update on Martial. “Not [training] today, we will see before Sunday,” Ten Hag said.

The Man Utd manager also admitted it is ‘disappointment’ for Martial and for the team to not have him available for their match against Omonia.

I think from the quality and all the minutes he played, he played very well. Also on Sunday.

He got a good assist for Antony’s goal but also in the pressing he was really good and he was an important factor in us playing so well in the first half.

But obviously, he fell out and that is a disappointment for him and for the team as well.

Man Utd found themselves trailing by a goal at half-time in their previous game against Omonia. The Old Trafford outfit will not want a repeat of that. It needed three goals in the second half for Man Utd to earn all three points against Omonia and avoid an embarrassing result.

Meanwhile, Man Utd’s next game in the Premier League is against Newcastle United. Ten Hag’s men currently sit fifth in the points table with 15 points from their first eight matches.
