Frenkie de Jong was impressive for Barcelona as they defeated their fierce rivals Real Madrid to go 12 points clear at the top of the La Liga points table.
Barcelona restored parity on the stroke of halftime as Sergi Roberto put the ball in the back of the Real Madrid net. The Catalan then sealed their victory with a late goal, scored by Franck Kessie.
Franck Kessie sent Barcelona 2-1 up in the 90+2nd minute to earn his side all three points from the fixture. The goal came 11 minutes after Real Madrid had a goal disallowed for offside.
Marco Asensio thought he had given Real Madrid the lead when he scored in the 81st minute of the match. However, the goal was ruled out for offside by VAR.
Frenkie de Jong attracted transfer interest from Manchester United in the summer transfer window of 2022. But a move never happened, but Manchester United continues to be linked with a move for the Dutch midfielder.
When asked about a possible move to Manchester United, Frenkie de Jong insisted he is happy at Barcelona. “No, I don’t think so. You never know about the future, but I am happy at Barcelona,” he said.
Frenkie de Jong also said he feels good at Barcelona and that he is now a better player than he was when he arrived at the Catalan outfit. “Things have changed for me since the summer. I play almost every match, and I feel good.
“I am a better player now than I was when I signed for Barça.”
