Germany Announces 26-Man Squad for Qatar World Cup 2022

Germany qualified for the tournament by finishing at the top of their group. Germany won nine out of their ten matches and finished with twenty-seven points.

The 2014 World Cup winners have been drawn into Group E along with Costa Rica, Japan, and Spain.

Hansi Flick’s side will start their campaign against Japan on 23rd November. They will then face Spain in their second match in the group. Finally, Germany will finish their group stage with a match against Costa Rica on 2nd December.

30-year-old Eintracht Frankfurt forward Mario Gotze became the hero of his nation when he scored the winner against Argentina. This goal helped Germany to win the World Cup in Brazil.

Since then he has failed to reach his potential and has not featured for the national side since 2014. But this time around, the forward is playing some great football. As a result, Hansi Flick has decided to call him again.

17-year-old Dortmund striker Youssoufa Moukoko has also been named for the first time. Werder Bremen forward Niclas Fulkrug also got his debut national team call-up.

One of the biggest exclusions from Germany’s 26-man squad is Mats Hummel. throughout his career, Hummel has been one of the most instrumental players from Germany. The defender however is currently not in his best form and has been left out of the Qatar World Cup 2022 squad.

Chelsea loanee and RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner is another name who has been excluded. Werner picked up an ankle injury recently which has ruled him out for the perennial event. Meanwhile, Manuel Neuer and Thomas Muller will take part in their fourth World Cup.
