ISL 2022-23: Odisha FC Mounts a Spectacular Comeback for Their First Home Victory of the Year

After the match against Mumbai City FC, Odisha FC made one change to the lineup that they had previously used. They continued to play in a 4-3-3 formation, with Diego Mauricio operating as the team’s primary offensive threat, and Thoiba Singh replacing Raynier Fernandes in the central midfield position.

Ivan Kaliuzhnyi and Dimitrios Diamantakos continued to play up front for Kerala Blasters FC despite their team’s previous loss against ATK Mohun Bagan. The starting eleven from that match were used once again.

After seven minutes of play, the Kerala Blasters had the ball in the back of the net, but the referee determined that the goal was invalid because of an offsides violation. Mauricio came in from the left wing before firing at an extremely acute angle. This was done before the shot. The attempt to attack Isaac Chhakchhuak was blocked by Prabhsukhan Gill just in time to avoid any damage.

Before Jerry could make his close-range effort to score, Gill was able to block the midfielder’s shot that was heading toward the goal. Jerry toe-poked the ball into the net, but because Gill had his glove on the ball at the time, the goal was called back and disallowed.

Midway through the first half, the Blasters scrambled to clear a corner kick that had been awarded to Odisha FC. When Thoiba got the ball, he took a shot from the outside of the penalty area, which required the goalkeeper for the Blasters to make an incredible save.

The away team took the lead with ten minutes remaining before halftime. Adrian Luna gave Lalthathanga Khawlhring a short corner, and then he produced a lovely in-swinging ball from the left side of the field. Khabra didn’t get caught in the offside trap, and he scored the game-winning goal with his head.

After three minutes, Isaac of the Juggernauts scored a goal for his team by bending the ball in from a corner and sending it toward the far post. Khabra put pressure on Saul Crespo, and as a result, Crespo’s header was just slightly deflected away from the goal.

After Jerry had crossed the ball in from the right wing, Mauricio was the one who put the ball in the back of the net two minutes into the second half. On the other hand, Gill was in a better place and was able to steer the shot onto the post before it could reach safety.

After Osama Malik’s flick on of Shubham Sarangi’s long throw from the right into a packed penalty area, Carlos Delgado’s shot was deflected into the path of Jerry, and the 25-year-old made no mistake in tapping it in from close range, levelling the score at 1 in the 54th minute of the match.

One minute before the hour mark, Luna’s inswinging pass from the corner caught the Odisha FC defence off guard, and they were unable to recover. Amrinder Singh breathed a sigh of relief when he saw the ball hit the opposite post and roll away for a goal kick because, despite his best efforts, he was unable to get a glove on the ball and catch it.

An unexpected development occurred at the 86th minute mark of the match. Amrinder lofted the ball towards the final third, where substitute Pedro Martin pulled it down with a deft touch and hammered it past Gill with elegance to give Odisha FC its second victory in the Hero ISL. The Kerala Blasters FC were defeated for the second time this season.

The Juggernauts are now in third position in the Hero ISL with six points, which puts them just one point behind the team in first place. They are scheduled to play Bengaluru FC at home on the 27th of October. When they get back to their stadium on Friday, October 28, the Blasters will play host to Mumbai City FC. The Blasters now have three points and are in ninth place in the standings.
