Jordi Alba Says Lionel Messi’s Barcelona Return Would Be Good For The Club
Jordi Alba has said Lionel Messi’s return to Barcelona would be good for the club but admitted it would be difficult for the Catalan outfit to bring back the Argentine superstar.
Lionel Messi left Barcelona in 2021 after his contract with Barcelona had expired. The Argentine wanted to stay in Barcelona, but the La Liga side could not retain his services due to structural and financial obstacles.
Lionel Messi then signed for Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer in the summer of 2021. He has since been plying his trade for the French behemoths. But Messi’s current contract with PSG is due to expire in June this year. He and PSG have not yet agreed on a contract extension. That has led to speculation surrounding the future of Messi.
Lionel Messi has been linked with a return to FC Barcelona on a free transfer after the end of the current campaign.
Barcelona leads the race for the La Liga title and are the overwhelming and outright favourites to clinch the league title this season.
The Catalan outfit enjoys an 11-point lead over defending champions and second-placed Real Madrid in the race for the La Liga title. Barcelona have 73 points from 29 matches in La Liga so far this season while Real Madrid have 62 points.
Speaking about Barcelona’s lead at the top of the La Liga table, Jordi Alba said: “The team is having a good season. We have to keep on this line — nothing is decided yet but it is very favourable for us.”
He also said La Liga would be a very important trophy for Barcelona players. The Spaniard said: “It would be a very important trophy for the players, for the younger players and the veterans. We have won a lot, but we still want to win more trophies for Barcelona. It would be a huge joy for everyone.”
Meanwhile, Barcelona will take on Atletico Madrid in La Liga in their next game. The match between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid will kick off at 7:45 pm Indian Standard Time on April.
